Week 1
For the first week of Method of Investigation, I chose the construction site without hesitation, because my community is expanding which means the loud noise affects our daily life very much. I thought there are a lot to explore about noise, and I hope to find a particular way to show how noise relates to people.

So I recorded the sound emitted by the construction site at different times and used the sound measurement software to monitor the noise parameters (monitoring time, duration, decibels, decibel fluctuation). After that, I was researching all kinds of knowledge about noise on the Internet (definition, cause, ways to reduce noise, health effects, etc).
The feedback I received was that I was a little off the track. Because the point of the course is to look at the site from various perspectives, instead of jumping directly to a point I want to do. I was advised to investigate one space with more different ideas, or to investigate 3/4 different locations. It is really helpful. I should have looked more at the site at the beginning of the investigation than at the noise itself.
Week 2 – Week 3
Based on last week’s feedback, I reconsidered and went to the site to conduct detailed research again. But the thing is due to the safety measures of the construction site, the public is not allowed to enter. So I want to focus on a relevant small and familiar space this time and this may make the deeper investigation more accessible.
Then I found that the bookshelf has many points to record and dig deeper. I tried various ways to investigate my bookshelf to understand the space more critically.

I documented the details of the books I bought on the shelf. Based on this chart, I found that apart from the title, ISBN was the one thing that set them apart from other books. ISBN number is unique, It seems that it gives each book an ID number, representing their different identity.

So I extracted these ISBNs and bar codes, overlay them with matching book covers to make a new pattern.

I got a very interesting point from the interview. “It’s hard to say which one benefited me, but they helped shape my life.”

That gave me a lot of thought. The types of books you read say a lot about who you are because bookshelf can reveal someone’s interests, or how organized they tend to be. And to a large extent, a person’s reading history is a history of his spiritual development. So I started focusing on the time I bought them.

The feedback I got was the Isbn is not very convincing.
I should focus narrowly to figure out the direction. For example, book covers, or some elements of the texts of the books. Maybe try something about the material on my bookshelf. Thanks for the suggestions, I think I need to figure out what I want to focus on.
